Lars Mikkelsen3-765x1024He began his studies at the National Theatre School of Denmark at the age of 27. He graduated in 1995. Apart from his role in the drama series released internationally as The Killing, he subsequently participated in two other critically well-known Danish dramas, Those Who Kill and Borgen III. He also had a leading part in an episode of the BBC drama Sherlock as the blackmailer Charles Augustus Magnussen. He played the role of the Russian president in the American television show House of Cards. He won an International Emmy Award in 2018 for his performance in the Danish TV drama Herrens Veje, which was broadcast in the UK in 2019 as Ride Upon the Storm.In addition to his home country of Danish, Mikkelsen speaks fluent Swedish, German and English, and he has mastered different accents. He claims that he and his brother first picked up English by listening to Monty Python records and learning the sketches from the comedy show.
